Most people know that Rolf's is awesome, and looks like Christmas threw up in it. Some people know that it has the best schnapps menu this side of some bar in Germany that also has a robust schnapps menu. What nobody knows is what the hell authentic schnapps are actually all about, which is why we brought in Booker and Dax Bar Captain Nick Bennett to explain just that. And then we took a bunch of pictures of Christmas crap.
There' something utterly magical about the Christmas air that consumes Rolf's in Gramercy. The old school German restaurant redefines "getting into the holiday spirit" with elaborate, over-the-top Christmas decorations displayed for six months out of the year -- because sometimes veal schnitzel simply tastes better with a side of seasonal silliness. Traditional dishes coming out of the kitchen, from potato pancakes to sausage platters brimming with weisswurst, knackwurst and bratwurst, are made indisputably more special eaten at a table underneath the blizzard of garland, icicles, ornaments and red orbs.
