Even if you're stuck in a dead-end job, it can be tough to leave, especially if that job affords you cool hats, great burgers, health benefits, and everlasting life via John 3:16. Taste the ambition of one Sunset resident who wanted OUT, at Baan Thai House & Wine Bar.
From a Thai lady who realized "I'm getting old...can't be bartender forever", Baan's a swanky little walk-in joint that devotes equal effort to its traditional Thai menu and accompanying wine list; sit at the polished stone bar, a communal high table, or at one of the many two tops that line walls adorned with intriguing paintings of Thai maidens... plus one of a hut. The grub ranges from angel wings (boneless wings stuffed with ground chicken, silver noodles, carrot, onion, etc.) in Panang curry, to homemade beef jerky, to steaming bowls of tom kha & tom yum soup, to the seasoned beef, onion, cilantro, and mint "Crying Tiger" salad, which is mainly just upset that it got tossed by a Swedish chick. They've got 90 bottles of affordable vino from all over the world (Opus One's the priciest), which they recommend you sample in flights, e.g., "Fresh and Floral", "Viva Argentina", "Bubbles Shaken", and "Sexy Blanc", also the name of Megan Fox's only look.
Unlike the regular menu, the weekly specials're all about experimentation, and can resemble anything from the "Tasty Trio" -- (garlic bread with minced pork, shrimp, n' peanut dipping sauce), to "Swimming Prawns" -- citrusy chili-coconut sauced fried jumbos, which you'll doubly enjoy, knowing that no matter how dead-end your job is, food still has you beat.
