Of all the ingredients that go into a McDonald's Big Mac, "special sauce" has always proved the most elusive. Two all-beef patties? Child's play. Lettuce, cheese, pickles, and onions? Excuse me while I check my vegetable drawer. But special sauce is something, well, special. McDonald's has released its recipe before, but some of the components would be pretty difficult to track down, if you wanted to recreate the sauce in your own kitchen (damn you, xanthan guuuumm!). So McDonald's is making it easier for you, and selling actual bottles of the stuff.
Of course, you'll have to endure an eBay bidding war to get one -- the burger chain has produced only 200 squeeze bottles of the stuff, and it put the first one up for auction in Australia with the bidding currently standing at the paltry sum of $23,000 Aussie dollars ($18,076.90 US dollars). However, if you're in Australia and don't want to drop all that dough, you can still get one of the 600 25mL containers being sold for 50 cents at participating locations all over the continent.
For those of us who don't live Down Under, we'll have to survive by scraping the sauce off our Big Macs one burger at a time. Or just make friends with an Australian millionaire. Whichever you're more into.
