Lineage
Santa Cruz Super Silver Haze x DJ Short’s Blueberry F5
Place of origin
Coming out of the Santa Cruz-area medical cannabis scene, Blue Dream quickly gained momentum in the thousands of dispensaries throughout California, thanks in part to hype generated by the likes of Snoop Dogg. It’s currently one of the most ubiquitous varieties in the US.

Approximate THC content
Medium-High (18%-23%+)
What to expect
One of the most recommended sativa-dominant hybrids for daytime pain and anxiety relief, Blue Dream provides a floaty, tranquil experience that still keeps the user alert and clear-headed. It is known for helping with a variety of ailments from migraines to digestion, which may be part of the reason it was, and continues to be, such a popular medical variety.

How to spot it
Almost any dispensary will have Blue Dream, but a quality example should have medium-large buds with noticeable trichomes and a distinct sweet smell. There is a lot of poorly grown commercial Blue Dream around because it is such a productive variety, so you may have to weed (!) through some crap to find a sample that lives up to its lofty reputation.
Smell/Flavor
A perfect mix of the two parent lines, Blue Dream has the sweet blueberry muffin notes you’d expect, but the Haze heritage adds a sandalwood complexity that makes it much more interesting.
