Sit down and breathe into your leftover burrito foil, because we've got some bad news: your carefully curated guac budget for Chipotle runs is about to be blown. For the first time in three years, the chain is hiking its prices to "somewhere in the mid-single digits", percentage-wise -- which, as the AP points out, could mean spending an extra $.24 to $.40 on your $8 burrito bowl. Commence freaking out over change that would otherwise live in your couch!
Chipotle is blaming the increase on the climbing costs of steak and cheese, plus the current avocado shortage brought on by California droughts. We'll start seeing the updated prices as quickly as the next few weeks, with the change hitting all locations this Summer. Expect carnitas-fueled street fights to sweep the nation immediately.
