Lineage

South African “Landrace” variety

Place of origin

Though it originated in South Africa, Durban Poison made its way through Amsterdam in the hands of some cannabis legends, where it was likely hybridized with local Skunk varieties to improve commercial value.

Approximate THC content

High (20%-25%)

What to expect

Known for being one of the most energetic and cerebral varieties around, Durban Poison is said to contain high levels of THC-V, the cannabinoid that is thought to have appetite suppression and weight loss properties. Expect a buzzy, social experience with boundless energy. Those who struggle with anxiety and paranoia should probably steer clear, however; at times, Durban is known to send people down a weird, winding road mentally.

How to spot it

Durban is almost always made up of large, rounded buds with a silvery-green coloration and lots of peach-colored hairs. The strain’s signature aroma is the easiest way to pick it out of the pack, though, as it is truly unique and cannot be mistaken for many other strains.

Smell/Flavor

The intoxicating profile of Durban is a combination of candied lemons and anise. Even the smoke smells sweet and crisp hanging in the air. Durban’s flavor lingers in the mouth and sinuses in the best possible way, seeming almost to freshen the breath with its minty, clean finish.
