A can of Miller Lite, besides being an icy-cold refresher on a hot day, can double duty as an excellent steaming agent for this beer can grilled chicken. It’ll help keep the bird moist while it soaks up all that spicy, barbecue goodness -- and you’ll get to drink half the can before the chicken goes on top. We call that a cookout win-win.

Beer Can Chicken

INGREDIENTS:
  • 1 whole chicken, approximately 5 pounds
  • Your favorite store bought or homemade dry rub
  • 1 can of Miller Lite beer
  • Your favorite store bought or homemade BBQ sauce
DIRECTIONS:
  • Get your grill going on high.
  • Remove the giblets from the chicken because they're in plastic (and it would be really bad if you left those in), then rinse chicken in cold water and pat dry.
  • Liberally apply dry rub on all areas of the chicken, both inside and out. Pop open your Miller Lite and place on a solid surface. Sit the chicken’s cavity over the can and slide the chicken down onto it so that its legs are on either side of the can.
  • Before placing your beer can chicken onto the grill, make sure to turn off the burner over which you’ll place the chicken.
  • Now transfer your beer can chicken to the cool side of your grill with its back to the fire. Balance the chicken upright and use its legs to support it in this position like a beautiful ballerina.
  • Cover the grill and cook for approximately 1 1/2  hours. Baste the chicken with barbecue sauce during the final 30 minutes until the breast meat reaches 165 degrees. Pull the can out of the chicken’s cavity and carve.
