The best thing to come out of Miami since the song "Welcome to Miami", the Winter menu at Pod's the work of the Morimoto vet and Iron Cheffer behind Miami sushi hotspot Makoto, who's now bringing luxe sashimi toppings and a late night happy houring to U City. Not just what pretty much anyone who knows anything about Oregon basketball calls Ian Crosswhite (ammiright?), No. 1 Duck is also a salty-sweet tea-smoked breast paired with a Japanese-squash-and-braised-leg-stuffed spring roll. Frosty Kobe Fried Rice: it's either what Andrew Bynum probably touched before being traded to Philadelphia, or this classic Makoto dish topped with chilled premium Japanese beef that's cooked by the yolk of a Japanese hen egg. Or there's sushi like truffle-sauced Pod Lobster rolls, marinated onion-topped Exotic Yellowtail, or ginger-dressed Chu Toro, also what you've been telling that one too-fast-eating Rancho Carne cheerleader for years. Most importantly though, Pod's added a Sun-Thu late night happy hour, featuring $6 'tails, including a half dozen color-coded martinis and the honey, mint, and bourbon Samurai Jack, which'll have you saying "bienvenido a a cab home" in no time.
