Now that George Washington's out of the picture (too soon?) the crew behind Haddonfield's British Chip Shop has expanded its empire across the Delaware, turning Old City's Swanky Bubbles into The Victoria Freehouse, pouring Scottish ales, English 'tails, and Irish whiskeys, plus serving UK delicacies like bangers & mash and a cheesy mash-stuffed shepherd's pie against a backdrop of live soccer broadcasts
This half-plate slab of bloody Sunday roast gets sided with duck fat potatoes, honeyed parsnips, and Yorkshire pudding whipped up from beef drippings. Also keep an eye out for golden-battered fried cod and chips, hot buttered crab toast, and a half-pound Stilton burger topped with Guinness-sauteed onions
The bar features classic gin 'tails (Pegu Club, Pimm's Cup, Blackberry Bramble), 10 single malts, and 12 brews on tap, including Yards IPA and Sly Fox Chesco Bitter, both of which are hand-pumped, so you're probably qualified to bartend here
Too many drinks will give you some perspective on the tin-tiled ceiling
If you prefer to dine in daylight, you are clearly not a vampire, and therefore might want to know that they're also serving Sunday brunch
Victorian-style eggs are presented over rice under an apple and onion green curry
Victorian queens are presented on pedestals
Finish everything off with desserts like fried-to-order Mars bars and this toffee-sauced sticky pudding, which are even hotter than female monarchs.
