The Best New Restaurants in Phoenix, Right Now
They say “If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen,” but clearly there are a lot of fantastic Phoenix chefs who absolutely can stand the heat here, because they’ve cut the ribbon on a bunch of great restaurants over the scorching-est months of the year. Here are the best openings of the summer…
Valley favorite Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers now has a new Scottsdale location, along with its recently opened Chandler location and two other Scottsdale locations. Patrons can expect the same wide variety of beers and hearty burgers they fell in love with at the other locations at this new, central-Scottsdale spot.
Italian-food lovers of Chandler can all rejoice, because Crust Pizzeria & Ristorante has expanded past Scottsdale and North Phoenix and has a new location in Downtown Chandler. Crust offers more than the typical lineup of pizza and pasta -- guests can look forward to delicious, one-of-a-kind dishes like the crusted mac & cheese and the shrimp oreganata.
Located inside the DeSoto Central Market, you’ll find the patty-based wonderland that is DCM Burger Joint. Not only does it have excellent burger options like the Dirty Turkey (which includes egg, bacon aioli and a pretzel bun), it also has a drink menu that definitely beats out pretty much every burger place we’ve ever been too. Seriously. It has craft cocktails, local beers, and a full wine menu, and it’s all amazing.
This spot pretty much had us with its tagline, “Creative Breakfast & Bar” because it truly does take a little creativity to successfully involve a bar with your breakfast. As it turns out though, the breakfast menu is one of the best in town, offering up things like Nutella and banana French toast, smoked salmon frittatas, and a Breakfast Burger -- but the real star of the show is the Build Your Own Bloody Mary Bar. The lunch options, like the fried chicken salad sandwich and the Caprese burger, are well worth trying out too.
Dressing Room is the perfect fit for the slick Downtown Phoenix vibe -- the building is covered with bright, colorful street art, and its name pays homage to the building’s beginnings as the dressing room for Phoenix’s first drag bar. Inside you’ll find an assortment of teas and coffees as well as a killer breakfast and lunch menu.
Tapas are sooo hot right now, and for good reason. Getting lots of small plates of different kinds of foods is extremely satisfying -- especially at a place like Holy Spirits where the food and the selection are top-notch. The full menu of cocktails, beer, and wine definitely doesn’t hurt either.
The team behind Crudo and Bar Crudo has opened another culinary masterpiece, Okra. Okra’s menu items have the kind of down South flavor that’s nearly impossible to find in Phoenix and we’re loving it. Dishes like the buttermilk meatballs & baked polenta, fried dilly beans w/ comeback sauce, hot chicken, and the canned biscuit donut offer something Phoenicians won’t find anywhere else.
Everyone’s favorite healthy lunch (and sometimes even dinner) spot is making moves. Flower Child, the product of Arizona-based Fox Restaurant Concepts, is now open in North Scottsdale, and it’s not stopping there -- another location is coming to Central Phoenix this winter. If you’re not sold on the whole healthy eating thing, we recommend you check out its Flying Avocado Wrap or Late Riser Bowl; we’re pretty confident they’ll change your mind.
