To get a real taste of Istanbul you probably have to actually go to Istanbul and, like, lick the Hagia Sophia (ewwwww!), but for a taste of the food of Istanbul, now all you have to do is go to wherever A Taste of Istanbul is posted up and have the Turkish transplant cheffing the lime green trailer lace you with some traditional Anatolian street-eats (yummmm!).
Things start with shawarma: huge slabs of marinated rotisserie-style meats like lamb and chicken, but... waitforit... no turkey.
Chances are you got served
is about as far as Marques Houston's movie career will ever go thin slices of these slow-cooked proteins on platters w/ rice, hummus, veggies, etc.
Chunks of marinated beef with onions and peppers also get thrown on the grill...
And end up either on a Kofta Platter, or served on pita, sandwich-style, which, thankfully for you, is logistically impossible to do with the Hagia Sophia.
