Even if you think Formula One is for babies, you should head to Nov 16th-18th's Austin Fan Fest, a multi-venue series of downtown parties and concerts intended to "celebrate what Formula 1 in Austin, TX is all about" (hint: it's about parties, and concerts). Just a sampling of the lineup, which also includes F1 show cars and simulators: Friday: See dinosaurs Aerosmith & Cheap Trick thawed out on their Global Warming Tour, Colombian Latin Grammy hog Juanes, soulstress Akina Adderley & her Vintage Playboys (ATX's mayor proclaimed last June 28 "Akina Adderly Day", so she's a pretty big deal), Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, and Flo Rida w/ Cobra Starship, thankfully not what happens when Whitesnake meets the Jeffersons. Saturday: Giants Enrique Iglesias & Nelly square off against The Midgetmen, while Austin's Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears and Bright Light Social Hour join Boston's Gentleman Hall on the free-admission Bud Light Center Stage. Also, there will be a Lupe Fiasco. Sunday: The official race afterparty will see the Texas State History Museum turned into a three-story club (that's how Bob Bullock rolls) with different rooms featuring the likes of Ghostland Observatory, Fitz & The Tantrums, and The Wailers. Other venues'll host everyone from the apparently still-blooming Wallflowers, to Bob Schneider, to Letting Up Despite Great Faults, who according to Pitchfork, celebrate what shoe-gazing indie-pop is all about.
