What you’re doing this weekend
Yessir, it’s Detroit Beer Week. Starting Thursday, beer specials will abound all over town: Short’s will be taking over the taps at Foran’s Grand Trunk Pub with beers like Funkin Punkin and Noble Chaos, Woodbridge Pub is hosting an orange + black party featuring New Holland pumpkin beers (orange), stouts (black), and porters (black again!), and Rock City Eatery is offering Dark Horse specials like the Reserve Special Black Ale black velvet cocktail with chocolate ice cream
Thursday, October 17th
If only there was a place near Comerica where you could drink Short's and Atwater and watch Game 5 of the ALCS. Oh wait, here you go!: a pop-up on Woodward called (you guessed it) Woodward Beer Hall sprung up for just that occasion, and should be sticking around regardless of the ALCS outcome. Get a preview of the setup here
Friday, October 18th
Eh, head over the border to the Windsor Craft Beer Festival for suds from Walkerville Brewery, Wellington Brewery, and more. Check it out either Friday or Saturday
Creepy clowns, acrobats, burlesque dancers, and live music. This is how Detroit does Halloween. Well, one way, anyways. It’s Theatre Bizarre -- the annual Halloween Masquerade carnival at the Masonic Temple. Costumes, including masks, are mandatory for all attendees, so make sure you check out the event details first.
Saturday, October 19th
Admit it: you've read all the Harry Potter books. Good, now you can feel no shame when you check out the Halloween Harry Potter Hogwarts Feast in Farmington where there will be butter beer, house tables, and maybe, just maybe some Emma Watson look-alikes? Cross your fingers?
The always awesome tutoring/writing non-profit 826michigan is hosting a Fall-themed “Autumn picnic” fundraiser called Sweater Weather in Detroit’s Boston-Edison neighborhood. The menu includes roast chicken, kabocha squash, and apple cobbler with sweet cream gelato. Put on something warm and grab your ticket here
Sunday, October 20th
Motor City Wine in Corktown is hosting chef Robert Scherer of the London Chop House as part of its weekly Sundaylicious series. Drop by this week for a raw bar featuring oysters, clams, and more.
