Summer Fest, beer dinners, and a whole lotta mussels

Houston Event of the Week
Free Press Summer Fest, Houston’s sickest music festival, is pretty much the only place to be this weekend. Head to Eleanor Tinsley Park for two full days of raging, with shows from Jack White, Vampire Weekend, Lauryn Hill, Wu-Tang Clan, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Deftones, Big Gigantic, Bun B, and more. Get your Summer Fest tickets here

Thursday, May 29th: Get five beers paired with five courses at the Real Ale Beer Dinner at Rudyard’s British Pub. Real Ale's brewmaster will be there to drop knowledge while he pours the Anniversary XVIII (Gose), Hefeweizen, Blakkr, California Common, and a Double IPA. Tickets are $50 and dinner is at 7pm. Friday, May 30th: The massive group bike ride that is Critical Mass hits the streets again this Friday. Meet at Market Square Park (the ride starts at 7pm) and get ready to work up a sweat. After the 20ish-mile ride, rehydrate yourself with some beers alongside your fellow cyclists (these scientists said beer was good for you after a workout, so we’re totally sticking with it).

Sunday, June 1st: On Sunday from 11am to 3pm, the areas of Washington and Preston between Studemont and Milam will be closed to cars and open to you for Sunday Streets. Walk, bike, blade, skip, scooter, or do some sort of awkward mashup of all of the above as you make your way over to Market Square Park. Plenty of food trucks and vendors will be parked along the way so you can fatten yourself back up if you’re feeling too healthy.

Monday, June 2nd: Mondays suck, but they suck a little less when you head to Osteria Mazzantini for Mussel Madness. For nine bucks, get a bowl of mussels tossed in garlic, parsley, and white wine tomato sauce along with a crusty loaf of bread for you dipping pleasure.
