Rental Car Rally: A costumed race to the Grand Canyon, via an abandoned waterpark
Happening the night of June 21st: the semi-annual Rental Car Rally, an insane, all-night road race (judged on odometer reading -- thankfully for Sandra Bullock -- and not on speed) that, in this case, will take costumed teams veering wildly through tons of oddball, clues-given, photo-necessary stops before finally ending at the Grand Canyon. And, as an exclusive for Thrillist, we got the lowdown on three of the craziest -- but in the spirit of the race and Redbook mag sex tips, we're going to keep it saucy (while respecting boundaries!) and only going to give you hints.
An abandoned waterpark: Though, other than hobos not wearing rain galoshes, no one's gotten wet there in a long time, this '60s-era, empty funzone's been featured on MTV's Rob & Big and in a Mercedes commercial, and's also where the EDM group Boards of Canada launched their most recent album.
An enormous replica of an Easter Island head: Yeah. It's exactly what it sounds like. LOST Egyptian leg not included.
An "experimental town" with an enormous half-dome: Continuing a Rental Car Rally tradition of hitting up "How the hell does anyone actually live here?" towns, this spot (with a population of between 50-150) was planned as an ecologically sound construction zone in the '70s, with plans for expansion, so if you break down here... you're going to be staying awhile.
