A UFC World Champion has to be a fighter in and out of the ring. Which is why Conor McGregor currently holds the featherweight champion title: he smack-talks just as hard as he smacks.
On last night's Conan, the MMA fighter took on the the role of hype man in preparation for his weekend fight against Nate Diaz. The interview was a nuclear diss dropped on his opponent. "He is repetitive," McGregor told Conan O'Brien. "He's stuck in a routine." After dismantling Diaz's fighting style, McGregor touted his arsenal of ass-kicking moves, including a capoeira kick that, he predicted, will send Diaz flying. The fighter was more than happy to demonstrate the move on the wiry O'Brien. No one was harmed in the making of this late-night comedy.
The McGregor-Diaz rivalry is particularly heated. At a press conference for the fight, standard photo ops turned into security-required brawl. Fox Sports reported that, while posing for pictures, McGregor reportedly "swiped Diaz's hand away," and UFC president Dana White "immediately shifted into defense mode as he tried to keep them separated before chaos ensued." Because it was a press event, the scuffle was caught on tape:
McGregor and Diaz's fight, the UFC 196, will go down at the Dallas Octagon on Saturday, March 5. Whether he wins or loses, McGregor will head from the fight to Hollywood, where he's set to star alongside Vin Diesel in xXx: The Return of Xander Cage.
