San Diego Event of the Week On Tuesday, March 4th at 5pm, twenty blocks of Downtown San Diego will be transformed into a Mardi Gras celebration so big you’ll swear you’re in New Orleans. A Big Easy-style parade starts at 5th Avenue and E Street at 9pm with music and performers followed by about 25 floats. There will be five stages with more than 15 national and local DJs and performers in addition to fire dancers, stilt walkers, acrobats, and more roaming the streets. Saturday, March 1st: The Commons Bar Downtown is hosting the 6th Annual St. Baldrick’s Shave-a-Thon from 12-4pm. The La Mesa and El Cajon police departments will be shaving their heads to help raise money for childhood cancer research. A $10 donation at the door will get you complimentary apps and drink specials, and a $20 donation gets you a T-shirt and raffle ticket. Get the details here
All Weekend: Local Habit is hosting their 3rd Annual Crawfish Boil on March 1st and 2nd. The menu will be a traditional mix of crawfish boiled with corn, potatoes, onions, and garlic served buffet-style in addition to Andouille sausage and po’ boys. Valiant Brewing will be providing beer pairings like their Crescendo blonde lager and a cask of their Alpha Drive Double IPA that will be tapped at noon on Saturday. Wear your Mardi Gras beads to get $1 off every beer. The Euphoria Brass band will get started at 3pm on Sunday playing two sets of authentic NOLA style Dixie jazz to really get the party going. The food is first come, first served, so get there early.
