The Weekend Playbook: Massive pillow fights and... sledding?

San Diego Event of the Week
Slip into your most stylish onesie, grab a pillow, and get ready for battle at the Somewhere Loud PJ Pillow Fight Party on January 10th with DJs, a 20ft LED wall, tons of strobes (yes, they’ve added more), high powered lasers, and SD’s loudest sound system.

Cabrillo National Monument

All Weekend: This Saturday and Sunday from 9a-5p, the 27th Annual Whale Watch Weekend and Inter-tidal Life Festival is happening at Cabrillo National Monument. Watch the whales in migration from atop the historic military bunkers, check out the tide pools on ranger-guided tours, and take in three different ocean life-themed films on Sunday (fingers crossed for The Life Aquatic). All Weekend: If you're looking to have more in common with your Northerly friends, here’s your chance to bust out your sled and get a little taste of the cold stuff at the Winter Festival in Poway. They’ll have a snow hill for sledding, live music, s’mores, ice skating, campfires, and more at Poway Community Park on Friday from 5-9p and Saturday from 4-9p.

All Weekend: If you’re looking for a place to catch the Playoff games, Islands is offering a burger and beer special. On Playoff game nights this Saturday and Sunday, get a Big Wave Burger and Kona Longboard Lager for just 10 bucks at any of their SD locations.

Wine Vault & Bistro

Saturday, January 11th: The Wine Vault & Bistro is serving a Chef’s five-course tasting menu paired with (you guessed it!) wines from 5-9p. The five courses include pan-roasted halibut, kumquat glazed duck breast, merguez spiced lamb confit, and more. Check out their calendar for more info, and call 619.295.3939 for reservations.

Sunday, January 12th: Shakedown Bar is having a Chili Cookoff starting at 3p with a live performance by the "master of Hillbilly Swing", Wayne Hancock. Judging starts at 530p and the winner gets a $50 bar tab.

Belly Up

Tuesday, January 14th: Four of San Diego’s best local artists are competing in a live painting art battle at the Belly Up in Solana Beach while taking in performances from The Devastators, Brothers Gow, and The Tarr Steps. Artists get a canvas and just 100 minutes to create a masterpiece inspired by the music. Info and tickets here
