The years directly following college are usually known as watershed years, mostly because the only place you can get a job is the local watershed. For a DIY brewing kit from a guy who spent his post-college years slightly more productively, check Craft a Brew.
CAB is a DIY homebrew kit that gracefully walks the line between quality and affordability, from a suds aficionado who spent 30 months after college on a bildungsroman-esque quest to pare down large-scale brewing processes into something easy enough even for people who don't know what a bildungsroman is. Each kit comes with everything you need (except for a pot and a stove), including a lab thermometer, funnel (!), 4ft of tubing, a how-to book, a one-gallon growler, and a three-piece air lock, as the two-piece left a little too much exposed. Since you're clearly not going to instantly turn into the guy who invented Sparks overnight, the starter kit can mercifully be used more than once, so you can experiment with each of the four recipe packs, like the Smooth Brown Ale with chocolate and Carapils grains, and the American Ale with golden malt extract.
They're also working on getting "exotic brewing ingredients" for further customization, and will soon be dropping more styles like a Chocolate Coffee Stout and an Orange Saison, also what you fondly called that first post-college summer after ditching that lame watershed gig to pick citrus for Tropicana.
