Festivals across the country offer fun to people en masse, from Tennessee's Cornbread Fest, which draws 50,000 people to eat its delicious carbohydrates, to Bonnaroo, which draws 4,570,933 people to watch some dude try to put his sandal on. Now ATL's getting its own throwdown to make you fat: the Atlanta Food & Wine Festival.
Going down in mid-May, but selling sure-to-go-quick tickets now, the AF&WF will be an all-over-ATL diet-damning weekend showcasing Southern eating/drinking traditions plus new consumption concepts from esteemed local/regional/international chefs, sommeliers, and mixologists from Texas to DC, who're coming to town to ensure your nickname becomes The Hill. Seminars and demos'll include themes such as "Breakfast Cocktails" plus discussions on underground supper clubs and Southern liquor laws; there'll also be a Buford Hwy tour, cured meat lessons from The Spotted Trotter, and a pickling course from Serenbe's Hilary White called "Putting Up", not to be confused with Puddin' Up, the Pixar movie where Bill Cosby's house goes nowhere, and he just eats Snack Packs. There'll be a terrace full of grilling demos including Kevin Rathbun's "Dry vs Wet", a Street Cart Pavilion with 15 regional guys, and the Tasting Tent's' various Culinary Trails (Cajun & Creole, Tamales & Tacos, Southern Sweets, etc.); there'll even be a whole-pig tent curated by Top Chef's Kevin Gillespie, and a special bourbon tent run by the president of Van Winkle Bourbons, where you just know you'll get Ripped.
They're peddling tickets for individual events, or you can score packages that get you stuff like exclusive access to a massive lounge (with live interactive cooking from award-winning bros Matt & Ted Lee), and private events like a reserve tasting of French wine, assuming it isn't all reserved to get the sandal guy primed and ready to perform.
