You usually know what to expect at a live blues lounge: endearing dinginess, plenty of booze, and a deep-voiced hooker you'd better hope is named John Lee. Taking your hunger blues away: Muncheez at Northside Tavern, starting next Monday.
Setting up in the parking lot of the Westside's legendary sonic dive bar, Muncheez is a soon-to-be-painted silver/green trailer run by the two-man team that founded The Corner, and serving daily sourced eats that're always fresh and "never get a chance to sit around", presumably because they're doing mad chores for being so fresh all the time. The mostly fried/flat-top'd menu's a new take on what they first offered at The Corner (before installing a brick oven), and'll feature snacks like deep-fried pickles, wings (habanero, BBQ garlic, etc.), toasted subs (Phillys, jerk chicken, three-cheese meatball w/ mozzarella, provolone, and Parmesan...), and juicy 1/2lb burgers hand-shaped from 80% lean/20% fat chuck, which Mr. Norris could probably improve on if he became even more of a Walker. More deep-fried-ness includes whiting filets, buffalo calamari, NY-style Sabrett beef dogs, and sweets: oil-boiled chocolate chip cookies, cheesecake, Oreos, Twix, and Snickers, which're all you'll hear next time you have a heart-to-heart with your cardiologist.
Within a four-mile radius of the truck they'll deliver all that plus brick-oven-fired items from The Corner like gyros, calzones, and pizzas including the bacon/ beef/ ham/ sausage/ pepperoni "The Works" -- request that from your Hooker, and it won't be long before you're Howlin' Wolf.
