Because sometimes even the poshest neighborhoods need a more
sporty scary baby casual dining option, Zoot, the Bee Cave's arm of downtown fine-diner Wink, has reopened as BC Tavern, maintaining the country club ambiance, but totally overhauling the menu, with an emphasis on bar bites and gourmet comfort foods. Grazing begins with mac n' cheese (w/ add-ons like house-cured bacon, black truffle, and duck confit), a chicken-sausage corn dog, duck nachos with tomato and Cotija, and a grilled pork belly sandwich with housemade pickles and chow-chow relish, no longer just the feeling you get from watching Westminster.
Small, comforting plates include lobster meatballs (over pappardelle w/ creamy tomato-shellfish sauce) and crispy sweetbread nuggets (w/ succotash & grilled collards), or go big with freshly ground rib eye/brisket burgers (2 for 1 on Tuesdays) like the Austin's Favorite (avo, alfalfa sprouts, tomato, pepper jack); if the sea's your thing, snag grilled scallops w/ green beans, carrot puree, fines herbes crudo, and roasted baby zucchini, even though targeting a vegetable that young seems cruel even for Lisa Ramp-anelli. As for imbibing: they're pouring 20 wines by the glass, taps including Harpoon IPA and Scrimshaw Pilsner, and a forthcoming menu of classic cocktails -- if you're looking for classic cocktales, just ask Ginger.
