Because actually going back to elementary school would just be a cheap Billy Madison knock off, turn back the hands of time at Melt, a new sandwich shoppe from the Bagel On Damen folks that'll make your face do just that, thanks to its copious amounts of childhood steez and buttery grilled cheese. The breakdown:
Decor: Brightly colored schoolhouse-style plastic chairs and an actual lunchroom table are flanked by reference-book-packed shelves, menus binder-clipped to manila folders, and a massive wall of empty gilded picture frames hung over a write-able chalkboard, meaning you don't need to pony up for HBO to get Chalky White.
Grilled: All served w/ soup (tomato, potato-cheddar, Italian wedding) or Miss Vickie's chips, panini-pressed creations include the Canadian (egg, Canadian bacon, cheddar, and peppered maple syrup on an English muffin), the Cajun-spiced cheddar/smoked turkey/bacon aioli Backwoods, and an olive oil & sea salt ciabatta filled w/ turkey, pepper jack, and cucumber/fig compote dubbed the Istanbul -- buy enough and They Might Be Giants.
Toasty: They're also going big on a powerful duo of BLTs: the 9'er, stuffed with nine applewood slices, hothouse tomato, greens, and lemon-pepper mayo, and a combination of dry-cured, thick-cut bacon & cardamom pancetta amped up with truffle aioli dubbed the Perfect 10, which sounds like the t*ts.
Extras: There's even a rack stocked with dozens of spices, mustards, hot sauces, and the like; bevs including Big Train hot chocolate; and a counter with jars filled with retro candy for dessert, saving everyone from your tired-ass jokes about being their Snack Pack.
