Going upscale's a great way to attract new clientele...or a great way to become a client of Jillian Michaels. Going upscale in Oak Lawn: Lolita's Mexican Cuisine.
From the owners of Babe's Sports Bar and El Ranchito Taqueria, Lolita's takes over Catalina's old Lemmon digs with new wood-lined walls and LED lighting in the dining area, a leather-couched lounge, and a granite U-shaped bar studded with seven LCDs -- which you can watch if your hitting-on-chicks game is losing its edge. Mexican served "the way we like it" starts with apps like Rajas con Crema (poblano strips, onion & zucchini in a creamy Linares cheese sauce), lemon- & tomato-cooked, serrano-kicked Acapulco Style Ceviche, and sopesitos: like strawberry shortcakes, except w/ beans & chorizo, and no mushroom-shaped pink hat. Mains run from the Filete a la Pimiento served w/ soft taco, potatoes & grilled Linares, to the grilled Pollo en Crema (smothered in a light Mexican sour cream-pecan sauce), to Tablita Adobada (center-cut pork loin, pounded flat & marinated in ancho pepper sauce), to Lolita's Favorites:
Dead Ringers and Die Hard: With a Vengeance grilled shrimp with rice, asparagus, carrots, yellow squash, and zucchini.
Drinks will include the tequila'd Mexican Fruit Punch, mango and coconut mojitos, and 'ritas with mango, tamarindo, or horchata. They'll also have dancing every Thursday, with lessons provided by Dallas Salsa, so when you're out on the floor you won't feel like the biggest loser.
