With the Hub's food truck craze officially underway, the trio behind Boston Food Truck Challenge-winning Bon Me (one of whom is a CIA grad) are now peddling their locally sourced Vietnamese-inspired gourmet street fare straight outta a renovated yellow DHL step van on City Hall Plaza. But before you hop on your Pro Model Razor Scooter and head down there, here's what to expect:
Eat This: To keep ordering Soup Nazi simple, the Me slings a laser-focused three-pronged menu (each with the option of BBQ roast pork, grilled chicken satay, or tofu and shiitake mushroom) comprised of their traditional bahn mi on multi-grain baguette topped w/ carrot, daikon pickles, and a top secret sauce; a BBQ salad over rice noodles with Napa cabbage and a Vietnamese vinaigrette; and a rice bowl w/ jalapeno, cucumbers, cilantro, and bean sprouts; they also rock a combo meal that joins it with a drink and your choice of fruit, vegetable, or cookie, also the name of a definitely not PC dating show from the 1940s.
Drink This: To wash it down, Me's pouring tasty classics like Vietnamese dark roast iced java blended w/ sweetened condensed milk, fresh squeezed limeades and cucumber soda, and a couple of iced Asian-inspired summertime faves like a spicy ginger lemon and mint green tea, plus another made with honey & ginger, though you won't need to be a millionaire to enjoy it.
(Occasionally) Eat This, Too: They're also focusing heavily on seasonal specials (right now they're offering up handmashed sweet potatoes, plus a Vietnamese blondie bar), so in the near future look for things like BBQ ground beef, corn with miso butter/scallions, bok choy with onion oil/soy drizzle, and Asian greens -- so tasty, you're sure to develop a yen for them.
