Seeing how you've got to eat at some point when you visit the desert to hit a music fest/ visit your grandparents/ play golf/ drop mad peyote and pet all the pretty trees, hit one of these two spots opening today at the new Saguaro Hotel, both of which are helmed by James Beard award-winning Iron Chef Jose Garces.
If you like your tequila like you like your Combos (in over 100 mostly spicy varieties), you'll want to hit this rustic saloon, which looks like the type of place Antonio Banderas may walk into at any minute DEFINITELY NOT HOLDING A GUITAR IN HIS GUITAR CASE. If Antonio chooses not to rocket the ish out of El Jefe, reward yourself with specialties like three different ceviches (shrimp, tuna, and yellowtail), crispy fish w/ pickled red cabbage, avocado & chipotle sauce, and salsa verde-enhanced lengua.
Don't let Banderas take your thunder: check out the menu and eat there immediately
If you like your plates like you like your little people (small, with handsome proportions), this Spanish influenced, modern-wine-cellar-esque tapas joint is your Warwick Davis. Highlights from the menu include prawn brochettes w/ chorizo, grape tomato & espelette chili, Berkshire pork belly w/ honey liquor and shaved apple, and a short rib sandwich w/ bacon, asparagus & celery root aioli, whose smooth composition is utterly trippy.
