When you hear that a restaurant has a 22yr-old owner, you probably think, "Finally, a calzone joint based on Assassin's Creed that's open 'til 5a!". But alas, that dream is yet again deferred, likely because, A) the owner of Voulez Vous has already spent eight years working in his family's North PB restaurant, The French Gourmet, and B) he's not crazy. But he is crazy about offering up fresh baked goods and three square meals out of the former Papalulu's in La Jolla Shores now arted with sunset colors on the patio, and a faux-blue sky interior.
Early arrivals can snag baked goods (croissants, pastries, cakes, Napoleans, etc.) alongside heartier options like sweet and savory crepes, steak and eggs, and scrambles like the Veggie Volcano with an “explosion of fresh veggies”, which is a lot more terrifying than molten lava and airborne ash. Lunch visits mean a grilled chicken panini with jalapeno jack and basil aioli, or cruise in from 3:30-5:30p to munch on the cheap with their “Bistro Bites” menu filled with the likes of coconut shrimp w/ a Dijon-orange marmalade, and oysters Rockefeller, which was a much richer dish until Teddy Roosevelt shucked with Standard Oil.
While they're rocking primarily surf & turf on the dinner side, they'll use their four craft beer taps and value-focused wine list (curated with help from pops) to bolster your courage for Frenchy specialties like Escargots a la Bourguignonne -- something you'd have a hard time finding at Assassins Need Calzones.
