Finally getting the memo that must've sat in its Eudora account for over a year, America's Finest City's now actually got some mobile vittles slingers, and is showing off that fact with the first-ever San Diego Food Truck Festival featuring 20 rolling gourmets gathering for your intestinal enlightenment, covering a smattering of cultural eats and bolstered by vets from LA and the OC, who clearly must've upgraded to FirstClass. Check out the best trucks from:
The Home Team
Though young, SD's not to be underestimated with trucks like Super Q, backed by 45yrs of grilling/smoking experience, whipping out BBQ Asada Fries, and smashed pulled pork/ Texas brisket/ BBQ chicken sliders on rolls from Bread & Cie, while the ladies of Devilicious will tempt you with Butter-Poached Lobster Grilled Cheeses and the peanut butter/ jelly/ bacon/ fried egg "24 Hr Burger", presumably named for that episode in season nine, in which Jack Bauer must eat one while trying not to torture anybody (SPOILER ALERT: he fails).
Judging by Josh Schwartz serial dramas, these trucks will be helmed by gorgeous people who can't act, but can apparently throw out quality foodstuffs, like tastes of Singapore from Chomp Chomp ranging from "Tiger Slaw(d)", braised beef Singapore Sloppy Joes, to Kaya (coconut) Stuffed French Toast topped with tropical fruit; there's also French goodness like the peanut butter/ banana/ Nutella "PCH" dished out by Crepes Bonaparte, but whatever you do, don't ask for Water...loo. It's still a touchy subject.
Hopefully leaving the smog behind, LA's rolling down with some heavy hitters like Chunk-n-Chip's legendary handmade ice cream sandos; and Debbie Lee's Ahn Joo featuring Korean skewers like the jalapeno-ponzu-sauced, bacon-wrapped "rice cylinders" and another with salmon, scallions, and Korean Miso Honey, though read that wrong and you might be a little disappointed by what you get.
