Hot dogs are pretty awesome, but sometimes they take a back seat to a good burger, or at least until Mondo Burger opens right across the street!!! Cutting any kind of burger completely out of the equation in favor of
Kenan and Kel's old stuff sausages galore, The Dog Pit, now open.
From a former What's Up Dog franchisee who's handled his fair share of, um, wieners, TDP's a new quick-service hot dog-taurant in Parkside slangin' 18 under-$5 sausages from the likes of an orange-'n-black interior just a little larger than a handicap bathroom. The menu's separated into two Featured Dogs (an 8" all-beef frankfurter and quarter-pound all-beef skinless), "Five Buck Favorites" (10 topping-rich meat sticks), and "Four Buck Bangers", which are classics like chicken apple, Polish, and Louisiana hot, and NOT a quad full of Milwaukee basketball groupies that have orgies with Glenn Robinson. And in addition to great regionals like a Chicago (which comes with sport peppers) and the New Yorker (with Sabrett's red onion sauce brought in straight from the Big Apple), they're also doing signature cased meats including a Seoul (pickled daikon, carrots, kimchi, korrake aioli) and the Dirty South, a sausage topped with meat and bean chili, 'slaw, and BBQ sauce, presumably added with a Lil' Flip of the wrist.
There's also a quartet of steak roll sandwiches (like a Turkey Bacon Pesto), and fork over an extra 50 cents and they'll make your Five Buck Fav with an artisan frank, though no way it's as artisanally frank as "Welcome to Good Burger, home of the Good Burger. May I take your order?".
