On April 25th, you'll have several reasons to celebrate: A) almost 2500yrs ago on this date, Lysander's Spartan army defeated the Athenians, ending the Peloponnesian War; B) 111yrs ago, NY became the first US state to require license plates; and C) this very year 2012 on the Gregorian calendar, Chefs Brian McCracken & Dana Tough are throwing a local distillers dinner at Spur. The guys (also responsible for Tavern Law, and The Coterie Room) are pairing five family-style courses with as many cocktails crafted using only hyper-local spirits, so don't even think about ghosting.
Choice examples from the menu include:
- A Counter Gin (from Batch 206 in Seatown) cocktail paired with lamb tartare, pickled cucumber, lavender mustard, and grilled bread, as opposed to grill bread, which is what Paul Wall calls any and all money he's ever made.
- Krogstad Aquavit (from House Spirits in the PDX) matched with merguez sausage w/ green chickpeas, preserved lemon & the Tunisian hot chili sauce Harissa, star of the popular North African television show Harissa Explains It All.
- An almond semolina cake w/ caramel whiskey ice cream/apricot conserve, dancing all awkward & closely with Bainbridge Organic Distillers Battle Point Wheat Whiskey.
And here's another reason to celebrate: they'll also be linking up with Uber, who'll be offering a free ride for first-time users (and half off for repeat customers), ensuring you get home safe and sound, since, after five cocktails, pretty much everything will be Greek to you.
