Grandfathers are full of great advice, like encouraging you to explore abroad, and then making a joke about getting on top of her!!...like every single time you see them. For a restaurant built around what Grandpa would want: Jake's American Grille.
Named for the owner's gramps (Edwin "Jake" Jablonski), Jake's plays tribute to the old sea dog with classic American eats and his favorite booze, plus a seafaring interior with red oak flooring, Navy-trimmed booths, ship-style steel lights, and old photos of the man, including his work with a "chemical warfare water spray wash down system", an industrial-strength invention still being used today by Charlie Sheen's jailers. Hearty steadfast plates include a veal ossobuco with a slow-braised shank alongside saffron risotto/roasted vegetables, a 6oz "Jake's Filet "with a cremini demi-sauce, and an 8oz cut served in a béarnaise sauce (with toasted brioche/ fried oysters) dubbed the "Carpet Bagger Sirloin", presumably because the steak resembles Union General Adelbert Ames of Massachusetts, who used Reconstruction confusion to get himself elected Republican governor of Mississippi despite his unpopular political views. ...Meanwhile, the whole cocktail menu (built by PS7's lauded Gina Chersevani) is based around Grandpa's favorite medicines, and includes "Jake's Choice Manhattan" with bourbon that's barrel-aged in-house, the rum/ lime juice/ chai tea "Sailor Delight", and a gin/ coconut water/ ginger joint called "The Shipwreck", which was also Grandpa's clever answer when asked why he never made Captain.
In a little over a month, Jake's will also open "The Boiler Room" downstairs, with a full bar and gaming like a pool table, foosball/arcades, Wii, and XBox, perfect for playing Medal of Honor...and as Grandpa would point out, staying on her!!
