Hublot and Dwyane Wade Heat Up Your Wrist

So excited was Hublot about its new collaboration with Miami Heat basketball star, Dwyane Wade, that last weekend it shut down Omar’s private supper club in NYC’s Greenwich Village and proceeded to ply guests with Champagne, food, and live entertainment until the wee hours of the night.

Ordinarily, this would be enough for us. But, uh, there was a watch there, and it required ogling. The watch in question is very much a departure from their previous collaboration, the overtly aggressive King Power D-Wade. This time, the proceedings have been slimmed, trimmed, and tailored into the elegant Classic Fusion Dwyane Wade (seen above), a watch that is meant to evoke the more fashionable side of the Miami shooting guard.

To this end, the case is rendered almost entirely in polished black ceramic, with red gold highlights. The multi-dimensional dial is skelontized, and at six o’clock is a subtle rendering of Dywane’s signature. Around back, a sapphire crystal display back caps off the proceedings and allows for an unobstructed view of the HUB1155 movement.

Does it work? Yes. To say that Hublot is a polarizing brand among collectors would be a gross understatement, and the Classic Fusion Dwyane Wade won’t change that. Some might say: “Another limited edition?” And they’d be right. But then, this is what Hublot has always done, and so far it’s working, so why mess with success? What’s more, this one is coming in at just under $20,000—less than some of Hublot’s recent LEs—which puts it within reach of more fans of the brand, and, of course, Mr. Wade.

The Classic Fusion Dwyane Wade will be made in a series of 250 pieces and will be available in October with an MSRP of $19,400.
