J. Crew's Hashtag Shorts Are #Genius

J. Crew might have gambled its timeless appeal with the Hashtag Short, but this remarkable piece of clothing made it completely worth it. Venturing into meme territory is always a bold move, but the Crew reminds us that before the "Internet" it was called a "pound sign"—a perfectly well-regarded, if not entirely understood, bit of telecommunications culture.

While some might be quick to roll their eyes at the symbol Wikipedia refers to as a "number sign" or Unicode "U+0023," is it really any more ridiculous than pink shorts with anchors or lobsters or whales on them? No, we think these shorts are perfect for the internet-savvy or your dad who really loves a swell game of tic-tac-toe.
