We knew at first glance of Studebaker Metals that we'd have to see more of these sturdy but intricately-crafted goods. So earlier this week, Supercompressor caught up with co-founders Michael Studebaker and Alyssa Catalano. What we found might just be the hottest, shiniest stuff to come out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, since Flashdance.
Working almost exclusively with brass and silver, the team strives to create useful everyday items meant to be used and worn. The "work patina" on their metalworks lends an industrial feel that pays homage to their Pittsburgh roots while simultaneously creating a masculine yet refined look.
"Our design aesthetic is equal parts simplicity and solid construction," says Catalano. "All of our work is designed to be of heirloom quality, meant to last a lifetime and then be passed on."
Take a look, would you?
