Sir Edmund Hillary's Mt. Everest Rolex

Our brothers in arms over at Hodinkee just dug up the Rolex that legendary badass death-cheater Sir Edmund Hillary wore to the summit of Everest while they were in Zurich. To grossly paraphrase them: "This one of the most important wristwatches of all time."

From Stephen Pulvirent at Hodinkee:

In 1953, the not-yet-Sir Edmund Hillary became the first man to summit Mount Everest along with expedition partner Tenzing Norgay. And he did so with a Rolex on his wrist, an Oyster Perpetual that would prove to be the ancestor of the Explorer. While browsing the Beyer Watch and Clock Museum in ZĂĽrich, I suddenly found myself face-to-face with this legendary watch and knew I had to share it with all of you.

It goes without saying that this watch is a big f*cking deal, so if you ever have the opportunity to buy it, or pull a Pink Panther and snatch it, you are highly encouraged to do so.
