Sling

(n.) From the German word “schlingen” meaning “to swallow." A type of drink typically made with a spirit, citrus, water and sugar. A sling is similar to a toddy but without the spices. Slings became popular in the 19th century served both hot and cold, but cold became the preferred preparation after the invention of the Singapore Sling in the early 1900s.
