(n.) A type of drink that contains a base liquor, lemon or lime juice, and a sweetener. Traditional sours, like a Whiskey Sour, use non-alcoholic sweeteners such as simple syrup. Other sours, such as Margaritas, get their sweetness from a liqueur such as triple sec. Sometimes egg whites are added for a frothy head.
