Sonoma conjures up so many things, from wine, to grapes, to wine, to red wine, to grapes...even sparkling wine! Helping it conjure up epic cocktails as well, Spoonbar. With Spoon, the wine country finally gets a Bourbon & Branch-caliber cocktail bar, with libations by Scott Beattie (of HMS Cocktails and formerly Cyrus); it occupies the ground floor of Healdsburg's brand new/ultra green H2 Hotel, with a 16-seat bar that's bathed in natural light, plus an adjoining lobby lounge that's lit by a fireplace, though you'll find there are plenty of other places to get lit. Beattie's classic concoctions hail from Europe & Latin America, and incorporate tons of local/small production n' non-local premium spirits, e.g., Junipero gin, Pappy Van Winkle 20-year bourbon, Domaine Charbay's silver tequila, and Scarlet Ibis rum from Trinidad, and, let's not forget, Tobago. The 10+ page list meanders from tart/refreshing classics (Corpse Reviver #2s, Sloe Gin Fizzes, etc.), to three distinct riffs on the Old Fashioned, to hot weather classics like Mai Tais and Dark n' Stormys, which're available in 5-drink pitchers, aka David Wells. In case you need to sop it up, Spoon's also putting together a menu of Mediterranean grub from a chef who's spent several years honing his skills in Tuscany, another beautiful place that conjures a great many things to mind, one of which is not soccer.
