A bar tab can often be troubling, from shocking you with how much you drank, to splitting it into multiple checks, to trying to figure out how the hell your watering hole still has a stock of the best diet soda ever made. For an app that'll help you figure out how to pay for all your rum 'n TaBs: Tabbed Out
From two Austin dudes with a decade of experience in card payment/security software, Tabbed's a free Android 'n iPhone app allowing you to open, monitor, manage, and pay your bar tab right from your table, created after it took nearly an hour to pay and leave the bar one night, basically proving these dudes can drink. After connecting the app to a debit or c-card, use is straightforward: at participating joints, Tabbed generates a secure code you present to your server, which lets you monitor the bill on your phone as you go, add a tip, pay without handing over cash or card, and even call a cab, something that was previously impossible to do from telephones. Just launched in PDX, Tabbed's already rocking in fine establishments like Lower Burnside 'za emporium Sizzle Pie and food-forward pub Burnside Brewing Co., North Portland's old-school Greek Overlook Restaurant, and Downtown's suds-centered watering hole Bailey's Taproom, also what you call your dorm room when you're a star UCLA two-guard, and George Zidek's the second-best-looking dude on the team
Because they don't want you splitting checks for three hours either, more area bars'll be coming into the mix soon, including both Laurelwood Public House locations and Southwest's rowdy Cactus Jack's Tex-Mex cafe, which you should probably avoid if you're looking to Diet Rite.
