You know how every time you come out of Jose Macs and try to hail a cab you realize it's either taken or off duty or surrounded by dudes from Revere demanding they be driven to Kelly's? Well, you've got two options: A) Please stop going to Jose Macs, especially on the weekend. B) Never stop dominating Jose Macs, and just start hailing your cabs the smart (phone) way, with Hailo
Founded by a trio of London cabbies eager to make it easier to get whatever they call a cab in London, Hailo's an iPhone/Droid app that lets you hail a Boston-licensed taxi from anywhere in the city with two quick taps. Download that sucker, then GPS your location (repped on the Gmap by a Gumby-esque icon) to see all the cabs in your immediate vicinity. To snag one, just hit "Pick Me Up Here", confirm your location, and "Hail Cab", at which point you'll see the driver's picture, medallion number, and user reviews, as well as be given the novel option to use your phone like a phone and call him just to talk about Steve Grogan.
And because your entered your credit card deets when you signed up, the integrated smartphone payment system means you'll be able to take care of the fare even as your wallet is slowly inching its way through the Callahan Tunnel to Kelly's.
