Because besides being pretentious the YBAs aren't even that Y anymore, consider the work of Barry Bulsara: a UK graphic designer who retains his sanity while tirelessly working for "the man" by putting together colourfully cheeky prints he freely admits have "no deep meaning", and are really "not that clever". Some general categories of his modestly presented fun:
Sci-Fi!: Princess Leia gets Marilyn Monroe's seven light-year itch, while this Banksy-inspired Spock acts a little less Vulcan, and a little more cling-on.
Philosophy!: We are reminded that Groucho Marx was amongst the cleverest human beings ever to raise crazy eyebrows, and that Jon Stewart (on whom Bulsara admits to having "a bit of a man-crush") might have more to offer civilization than the real newsmen he mocks.
Music!: Bulsara venerates performers that took him some time to warm up to, including Keith ("not the most technically gifted"), Johnny Cash ("I admit in being a bit dismissive whenever any of my friends previously recommended him"), and Neil Young ("when I first heard one of his songs I had to switch the radio off"), as stubbornly holding to first impressions is as Childish as insisting on telling all of England everyone you've ever slept with.
