By the time I was old enough to realize my parents had taken me on an airplane, the concept of “traveling stylishly” had long since been whitewashed from the collective American memory. I never knew the days of dignified men in sharp suits and razor thin side parts, leggy flight attendants and stiff highballs served by expert bartenders with a smile.
Travel was, as many wax nostalgic, a tremendously exotic practice—and it’s this very DNA that American Express is reviving with their Centurion Lounges, the latest of which is now open at San Francisco International. I had the pleasure of spending an afternoon and evening hanging out at the lounge as a guest of American Express. If you're lucky enough to also visit, here’s a taste of what you can expect.
