If you're aiming to abandon your man-child reputation, setting up a giant ping-pong table in your place is a terrible plan. However, that's no longer the case, thanks to the team behind Polite Table Tennis Co., who has just unveiled a line of solid and sophisticated gaming tables that actually improve the look of your very much grown-up digs.
PTT's lineup is far and above those rickety green-topped wheeled wooden panels you've been acing opponents on for most of your life. They're currently offering two beastly models that look as if they were plucked right out of an old hunting lodge. One limited edition version is constructed from your choice of aged wood, carbon fiber, aluminum, or a bamboo composite, and the other's fashioned from thick cut Baltic Birch as well as reclaimed fir and poplar. Though if you'd prefer something more custom, they're totally down to accommodate special requests.
The stepped-up style extends beyond the tables, too. The accessories are amazing, including beautiful handmade cork and walnut rackets, leather playing nets, and even a line of special balls.
Joe McGauley is a senior editor at Supercompressor. He's pretty OK at actual tennis, but straight-up terrible at the table game.
