How to Make a Fruit Flag Cocktail Garnish

A simple maraschino cherry makes a decent garnish, but if you want to step up your Tom Collins or Whiskey Sour game, try another traditional garnish for sour drinks: a fruit flag. Here, how to make a fruit flag garnish.

Orange or lemon wheel

Step One

Cut a wheel from an orange or a lemon and then cut the wheel in half.

Step Two

Slide the skewer through the pith of one side of the half wheel …

Step Three

… then through the cherry … 

Step Four

… then through the pith on the other side of the half wheel. The lemon or orange should look like it’s holding the cherry.

Step Five

Set the skewer across the rim of a glass.
