While their remainders can make lovely drunken bedmates, thin, heat-lamped burgers can't compare to freshly made fat-patties still dripping with their own magic. Strangely, the same concept applies to cologne, so get yours fresh at Le Labo, opening today.
Started in Soho, NYC, Labo's a laboratory-style scent shop that concocts your man-musk before your eyes, thereby avoiding perfume staleness -- a problem you'd have spent your life terrified of, if you'd actually known it existed. The store stocks 10 fragrances (3 men, 3 women, 3 unisex, 1 "infant"), all made from exotic botanicals like Rose Centisolia, Jasmine, and Bergamote, most of which're imported from the world's cologne capitol, Grasse, France (better luck next time, Cologne, Germany). Select your aroma, then watch a white-coated chemist create your supply; each bottle's labeled with the mixed-on and expiration dates, your name, and your chemist's name -- a la an Rx script, so the cops won't bust your ass for Smelling Awesome without a Prescription.
In September, this store'll introduce an LA-only fragrance designed to somehow capture the essential scent of the City of Angels -- which, if there's a heaven up there, will smell exactly like a sizzling puck of ground cow.
