The Adler Planetarium is one of the best museums in the city for the young and young at heart, and every year, it allows free admission on select dates. (As of publication time, the remaining free dates for Illinois residents are September 9-16; October 8, 21, 24, 25; November 11, 12, 14, 15; and December 1, 3-7, 10.)
Chicago has countless public art pieces -- between murals, sculptures, and paintings in city buildings -- but the Loop is where you can see the most big-name works. Walk around to check out the Calder Flamingo, the Chicago Picasso, the Bean, and more.
The Museum of Contemporary Photography offers admission by suggested donation all year round, but they’ll never turn someone away who can’t pay to enter. With rotating exhibits and an impressive collection, this is one museum you’ll want to keep coming back to over and over again.
