Psychedelic Science: Magic Milk in Four Simple Steps

Cole Saladino/Thrillist

Science is awesome and has taught us so much... except how magnets really work. What’s up with that, science? What we do know, however, is that taking some really basic household items and putting them together in a plate can create some really trippy results.

Case in point, the psychedelic milk trick you're about to learn. With three basic items found in your cupboards, you can entertain kids for hours and simultaneously freak out that one friend you only see when Phish comes to town.

• Glass o' milk
• A plate
• Food coloring
• Dish soap

It's all so mesmerizing!

Step one

Pour that delicious milk slowly into a plate like you’re about to feed an army of stray cats.

Step two

After the milk settles and the cats are kept at bay, grab the food coloring of your choice and drip 5-6 drops wherever you want (... as long as it's in the milk).

Step three

Grab your dish soap and slowly drip one, single, adorable, little droplet into the middle of the milk plate.

Step four

Stare slack-jawed into the mesmerizing abyss of color and chemistry. Sidenote: don’t drink the milk afterward. It doesn’t taste good at all… my, uh, friend told me.
