When you're going for upscale Mexican, if you're going to start with a lobster ceviche and move onto korobuta pork enchiladas, you can't finish your evening off by clawing through a Sevs freezer case for a Choco Taco. For a more elevated Mexican dessert, hit the new WeHo Xooro
Having already proved its chops in Santa Monica, Xooro's a takeout nook in a tiny white-and-red West Hollywood storefront, wholly dedicated to stuffed 'n' topped "premium Spanish fritters", which roughly translates to "better churros than on Olvera Street". All 'ros are fried in "healthy" rice bran oil, and start with basics like the "Original" (vanilla creme filling, coated w/ sugar & cinnamon), the "Chocolate Original" (same thing, made with chocolate-flavored flour), or the "Original Gluten Free"; you can also get creative and customize your filling (peanut butter, raspberry, dark chocolate, etc), brushed-on coating (chocolate, vanilla, Nutella, etc), and topping, with options for the latter including macadamia nuts, coconut, chocolate sprinkles, and white chocolate sprinkles, which is also why you should avoid Jason Williams when he's drunk atop a tall building. There're also a slew of pre-put-together specialty options, including the "Mississippi" (peanut butter filling, dark chocolate coating, chopped peanuts), the "Tiramisu" (coffee creme filling, milk chocolate coating, a web of dark chocolate lines), and one stuffed with maple and covered in bacon, 'cause single-bypasses are for chumps
The new store's also got a few just-added specialty offerings, like the "Banananut" (banana filling & Nutella coating), the double-macadamia-nut "Macadamia Madness", and the cocoa-rific Triple-Chocolate, and they'll soon be adding savory cheese-filled offerings, meaning fewer burns from hot rollers as you nab petrified Cheesy Big Bites.
