A casual vibe can be better than a formal one, especially if the funeral you're attending isn't even going to be that nice. Finally offering up his own casual vibe, the chef behind Luc.
Just down the street from his high-brow mainstay, Rover's, Top Chef Master Thierry Rautureau's second spot is a laid-back French foodery boasting a back room that opens to the kitchen, a massive bar up front built from the remains of the chef's old porch, and an entry-way with a glass top that's strewn with his old hats, or at least until he and his wife make up. Bistro-style grub ranges from the caramelized onion/tomato jam/Luc's aioli Beef Burger w/ fries, to the Boeuf Bourguignon stew w/ mushroom, carrots & potato, to a Saffron couscous w/ fennel confit, and a lemon & carrot sauce -- too much of which led to Bugs Bunny's well-publicized fall from grace for groping Suzy Kolber. The menu also sports apps (Smoked Salmon Tartine w/ creamy goat cheese & capers), sides (basket of soufflé potato crisps), and a rotating selection of family-style specialties like a mushroom/farro/madeira Braised Beef Tongue Chef Thierry makes every Wednesday, even though it means missing The New Adventures of Old Christine AND Big Bang Theory.
You can also get liquid goodness in the form of NW and international wines, local drafts (Dick's IPA), and specialty tails (the Grey Goose/gin/Lillet/St. Germain Lucatini); and, in the coming months, you'll be able to get brunch and grub to go, so you can eat in your living room, which always has a casual vibe to go with its "in nomine Fatty" motto.
