Split personalities can actually be useful -- no they can't, now shut up and make me a Western omelette! For a club more seamlessly splitting off from its restaurant host, get to Valanni's Social.
Social's taken the second dining area of Valanni and dumped the muted Medi scene in favor of glammed-out furnishings while offering up a late night menu of sharables, cocktails, and bottle service, including Philly's first half-sized "split" bottles, but not bottles that do the splits, as that'd just show their Bushmills. The posh interior's now dressed in black planks laced on the walls in a basketweave and gleaming white leather round banquettes scooped out of the walls and surrounded by footstools, while a DJ booth ringed by color-changing LEDs anchors the center, hopefully better than Nick Cole. The late night menu's offering tapas like gyro lamb skewers with tzatziki sauce and pitas, or an ahi tuna tartare in a balsamic soy glaze, plus the aforementioned bottle service (accompanied by garnishes like a Japanese Sencha syrup and rock candy), Martinis, margaritas including one with Domaine de Canton, and Mojitos like the Perfect 10 prepped with 10 Cane rum, which was just normal rum until it keyed a car in Malaysia.
Because it is a club, they're hosting DJ Bizz and his hip hop/house/rock stylings from Wednesday to Saturday, and opening week'll feature nightly specials like Friday's Play, with Ketel One/Playboy Energy cocktails and, slightly less excitingly, Playboy bunnies milling about, a fine example of a time when it's perfectly OK to have zero personalities.
